Video: Tenkara Fest 2016

Christophe Laurent posted a nice slide show video from the 2016 Tenkara Fest in France to YouTube a few days ago. Personally, I love looking at photos and video from other countries, as some things may be different, but the language of fishing in universal.

Tenkara Angler Tamo T-Shirt

Today we’re happy to announce our new Tenkara Angler “Tamo T-Shirt,” a collaboration with Six Waters Co., is now available for sale in the Tenkara Angler Square store.

Designed by the guys at Six Waters, this tee is a super-soft 60/40 cotton/poly blend, the kind of tee that’s perfect for the water, or just lounging around the house. I’d also say it’s rather true fitting, and not a  too-tight “hipster” cut. (Sorry bros!)  I’m 6’0, 210 pounds and fit in a size XL with room to spare.

The first print run was a very limited edition, so if you’re interested, they’re available in the Square store HERE, (along with Tenkara Angler stickers, and other assorted merchandise).

Fallfish Tenkara: 2016 Year In Review

It’s no secret that Isaac Tait of Fallfish Tenkara has been a very big part of the success of Tenkara Angler magazine. His contributions to the various issues have been tremendous, and his content has brought us all a little bit closer to tenkara and culture in Japan.

The other day, Isaac posted a 2016 “Year in Review” post at Fallfish Tenkara. It’s full of photos, and specifically, the video also embedded below. Do yourself a favor and go over to his post by clicking THIS LINK as well as watching the associated video.

The video has beautiful sights from all over Japan, however, if you’re specifically interested in fishing footage, it begins around the 3:00 mark.

Enjoy!

Spring 2017 Issue: Call For Submissions

Today I wanted to officially open up the submission window for the Spring 2017 issue of Tenkara Angler magazine. While it might be cold outside now, Spring is coming, and so is an awesome opportunity to get back out on the water!

call-for-submissions-1

Any and all topics are fair game – fishing reports, gear reviews, destination travel, essays, poetry, fiction, photography, art, whatever – as long as it’s tenkara or conservation related. Similar to prior issues, the tenkara community will craft the contents of the issue.

(And don’t forget, if you are a company that submits content, please don’t hesitate to also submit an ad for your services, inclusion is the least I can do).

If you are interested in contributing, I’ve outlined some simple parameters for content submission HERE.

The deadline for content submission will be March 10th, 2017, with the target publishing date toward the end of that same month.

The 2017 Fly Fishing Show

Sadly, Tenkara Angler probably won’t be able to make it to the 2017 Fly Fishing Show(s) this year; a few too many schedule conflicts arose in regard to the handful that are somewhat geographically nearby.

However, if you’re looking for tenkara-centric coverage, fear not! Jason Klass just did an extensive recap of this past weekend’s Denver show over on his Tenkara Talk blog. Odds are you’ve already read it, but just in case you haven’t, click HERE.

If you’re interested in attending a regional Fly Fishing Show, there are still a few more coming up over the next few weeks:

Marlborough, MA: January 20-22
Somerset, NJ: January 27-29
Atlanta, GA: February 3-4
Lynwood, WA: February 18-19
Pleasanton, CA: February 24-26
Lancaster, PA: March 4-5

Should you make it to one, you’ll find that they’re a lot of fun and usually very well attended, so make sure to carve out a full day to take your time and wander the aisles.

Check out The Fly Fishing Show’s website for additional information.

Congratulations To Tenkara Jam!

The Tenkara Jam was recently recognized as the “Best Fly Fishing Event” by Blue Ridge Outdoors Magazine in their 2017 Best of the Blue Ridge Readers’ Choice awards.

Voting took place in October 2016, and behind the strength of the tenkara community the Jam ended up besting several other more well-known fly fishing events.

Congratulations to organizer Jason Sparks and all involved in the Tenkara Jam. It’s an amazing event, well deserving of all accolades and publicity it receives.

Click HERE see all of the “Best of the Blue Ridge” winners; the Jam is noted on page four.
