Tenkara Angler Tamo T-Shirt

Today we’re happy to announce our new Tenkara Angler “Tamo T-Shirt,” a collaboration with Six Waters Co., is now available for sale in the Tenkara Angler Square store.

Designed by the guys at Six Waters, this tee is a super-soft 60/40 cotton/poly blend, the kind of tee that’s perfect for the water, or just lounging around the house. I’d also say it’s rather true fitting, and not a  too-tight “hipster” cut. (Sorry bros!)  I’m 6’0, 210 pounds and fit in a size XL with room to spare.

The first print run was a very limited edition, so if you’re interested, they’re available in the Square store HERE, (along with Tenkara Angler stickers, and other assorted merchandise).

Spring 2017 Issue: Call For Submissions

Today I wanted to officially open up the submission window for the Spring 2017 issue of Tenkara Angler magazine. While it might be cold outside now, Spring is coming, and so is an awesome opportunity to get back out on the water!

call-for-submissions-1

Any and all topics are fair game – fishing reports, gear reviews, destination travel, essays, poetry, fiction, photography, art, whatever – as long as it’s tenkara or conservation related. Similar to prior issues, the tenkara community will craft the contents of the issue.

(And don’t forget, if you are a company that submits content, please don’t hesitate to also submit an ad for your services, inclusion is the least I can do).

If you are interested in contributing, I’ve outlined some simple parameters for content submission HERE.

The deadline for content submission will be March 10th, 2017, with the target publishing date toward the end of that same month.

Merry Christmas From Tenkara Angler!

Merry Christmas to all of the readers of Tenkara Angler magazine!

Hope you are all enjoying a wonderful holiday season, and that “Tenkara Santa” left you some line, spools, flies, or maybe even a new rod in your stocking!

Be safe, and looking forward to seeing you on the water in 2017!

Tenkara Santa artwork is courtesy of Jim Tignor and appears in the Winter 2016-17 issue of Tenkara Angler. To view (or purchase) Jim’s work, please visit him on Instagram or his Imagekind web store.

The Winter 2016-17 Issue of Tenkara Angler Is Live!

I’m pleased to announce the Winter 2016-17 issue of Tenkara Angler magazine has hit the virtual newsstands!

I’m not 100% sure, but I think this is the largest group of contributors to date. Twenty-four different submissions in all, with a great mix of new names, and usual suspects.

Being a winter issue, there’s a really nice mix of content to keep your fishing juices flowing, even if it’s frozen outside. Fly tying recipes, tips to stay warm on-stream in the winter months, tactics to chase salmon and smallmouth, destination travel, an interview, a discussion on honoring the definition of tenkara, a hat shopping adventure, as well as thoughtful essays and playful art. Oh, and at least one typo I found, but *exhale* that’s okay. 🙂

Just wanted to give a big THANK YOU to everyone that has supported Tenkara Angler magazine this year. It’s amazing (& humbling) to see how well received this community-sourced project has become, and I’m really looking forward to bringing you more content in the future. The tenkara community rocks!

The Wintertime Blues Project

While the submission deadline was opened last week for the Winter 2016-17 issue of Tenkara Angler, I happened to find a file on my computer that brought me back in time a few years to a similar concept assembled by Anthony Naples, author of the Casting Around blog and proprietor of the Three Rivers Tenkara shop.

The Wintertime Blues was originally published in 2013 and was a collaborative project involving fly fishing and tenkara-themed paintings, poetry, essays, photography, comedy, drama, etc… from 15 different contributors. You’ll find many of the names familiar.

Anthony was generous enough to put his copy of the The Wintertime Blues on loan to Tenkara Angler to publish for our subscribers in our “page flipping” e-reader Issuu format. Or you can also visit his blog Casting Around to download the free PDF.

I’m certain those who did not originally see this magazine in 2013 will find it quite an enjoyable read, and those that did will enjoy the walk down memory lane.

Enjoy!

Winter 2016-17 Issue: Call For Submissions

Today I wanted to officially open up the submission window for the Winter 2016/2017 issue of Tenkara Angler magazine. The window is always open, but a post such as this usually helps to bring it back to everyone’s stream of thought.

winter-call-for-submissions

Anything is fair game – fishing reports, essays, poetry, fiction, photography, art, whatever – as long as it’s tenkara or conservation related. Being winter, many anglers begin to turn away from the water to focus on fly tying, so some fly tying content would be fantastic.  However, similar to prior issues, the tenkara community will eventually craft the contents of the issue.

(And don’t forget, if you are a company that submits content, please don’t hesitate to also submit an ad for your services, inclusion is the least I can do).

If you are interested in contributing, I’ve outlined some simple parameters for content submission HERE.

The deadline for content submission will be December 9th, 2016, with the target publishing date toward the end of that same month.

For those of you that are new to Tenkara Angler (perhaps you were introduced to the magazine at the Tenkara Jam), the Fall 2016 issue can be found HERE. The contributions continue to get stronger with each new edition, I would sincerely love to have you as a part of the next issue!
