It’s my pleasure to announce that the Spring 2017 issue of Tenkara Angler magazine is now live! The largest issue of Tenkara Angler yet, there’s tons of great content to get you excited for the Spring fishing season.
This issue has it all – art, destination travel, essays, tips & techniques, and two long-form interviews. The Tenkara Community is a place unlike any other, and it’s a joy to bring these magazines to life each quarter.
As usual, it will be available as a free e-magazine over at Issuu, HERE.
And also available for sale as a physical magazine or PDF download in the Blurb bookstore, HERE.
I’d also like to note that since there were so many additional pages in this issue (over 140 in total), the Blurb one off, on-demand printing is beginning to get quite expensive. The “Premium,” high-gloss issues now cost $32. In response, we’re also introducing a “Standard” version with slightly lesser quality matte paper to try and maintain the original $25 price point. With over 30 additional pages, this may be the way the print copies will have to be done in the future. Should you or your friends purchase a standard version, I’d love to hear your feedback on the quality.
Finally, I wanted to acknowledge and congratulate the 3 winners of the cover photo contest – Paul Gaskell (front cover), Steven Smith (back), and Brian Schiele (inside back)! The photos are fantastic, please make sure to check them out.
Rather than write a long-winded post, I decided to make a long-winded video about some of the updates around the Spring 2017 issue – including a general update on progress, a Cover Photo Contest, and Letters to the Editor.
Today we’re happy to announce our new Tenkara Angler “Tamo T-Shirt,” a collaboration with Six Waters Co., is now available for sale in the Tenkara Angler Square store.
Designed by the guys at Six Waters, this tee is a super-soft 60/40 cotton/poly blend, the kind of tee that’s perfect for the water, or just lounging around the house. I’d also say it’s rather true fitting, and not a too-tight “hipster” cut. (Sorry bros!) I’m 6’0, 210 pounds and fit in a size XL with room to spare.
The first print run was a very limited edition, so if you’re interested, they’re available in the Square store HERE, (along with Tenkara Angler stickers, and other assorted merchandise).
Today I wanted to officially open up the submission window for the Spring 2017 issue of Tenkara Angler magazine. While it might be cold outside now, Spring is coming, and so is an awesome opportunity to get back out on the water!
Any and all topics are fair game – fishing reports, gear reviews, destination travel, essays, poetry, fiction, photography, art, whatever – as long as it’s tenkara or conservation related. Similar to prior issues, the tenkara community will craft the contents of the issue.
(And don’t forget, if you are a company that submits content, please don’t hesitate to also submit an ad for your services, inclusion is the least I can do).
If you are interested in contributing, I’ve outlined some simple parameters for content submission HERE.
The deadline for content submission will be March 10th, 2017, with the target publishing date toward the end of that same month.
Merry Christmas to all of the readers of Tenkara Angler magazine!
Hope you are all enjoying a wonderful holiday season, and that “Tenkara Santa” left you some line, spools, flies, or maybe even a new rod in your stocking!
Be safe, and looking forward to seeing you on the water in 2017!

I’m pleased to announce the Winter 2016-17 issue of Tenkara Angler magazine has hit the virtual newsstands!
I’m not 100% sure, but I think this is the largest group of contributors to date. Twenty-four different submissions in all, with a great mix of new names, and usual suspects.
Being a winter issue, there’s a really nice mix of content to keep your fishing juices flowing, even if it’s frozen outside. Fly tying recipes, tips to stay warm on-stream in the winter months, tactics to chase salmon and smallmouth, destination travel, an interview, a discussion on honoring the definition of tenkara, a hat shopping adventure, as well as thoughtful essays and playful art. Oh, and at least one typo I found, but *exhale* that’s okay. 🙂
The Winter 2016-17 issue of Tenkara Angler magazine can be found for free online consumption via Issuu HERE, or for those of you that prefer something in-hand, for physical purchase HERE.
Just wanted to give a big THANK YOU to everyone that has supported Tenkara Angler magazine this year. It’s amazing (& humbling) to see how well received this community-sourced project has become, and I’m really looking forward to bringing you more content in the future. The tenkara community rocks!
Tight Lines & Deep Bends,
