Happy Sunday! It’s been a loooooong time since we published a “Sunday Morning Riffles” post. But with a little less chaos in my weekends these days, I thought it might be a nice opportunity to revive this format. For those not familiar, it’s a quick hit rundown of things we recently saw and found interesting in the tenkara world, but were perhaps not meaty enough for a blog post of their own.
But enough of me and my jibber-jabber, let’s fish those Riffles…
Tenkara Events!!!
More and more in-person tenkara events are being announced by the day. Over the past two weeks we’ve had the announcements of the Colorado Tenkara Campout, the Tenkara Takeover of the San Juan, and registration has officially opened for the White Mountains Tenkara Campout. So many gatherings, so little time! Visit our events page to learn more about all the gatherings on the tenkara calendar for 2026 (so far).
Ciao Amici!
Davide Muccino Zarlenga and Aldo Menghini are two of tenkara’s biggest ambassadors in Italy. They recently attended and presented at the 2026 Pescare Show in Rimini, most of which is shown in this video. Don’t speak Italian? Click the CC icon to turn on subtitles, then the little gear icon to auto-translate them to your language of choice…
Meet Chris Zimmer
The Heritage Tenkara Project recently did a hybrid interview/profile of everyone’s favorite tenkara pack builder, ZimmerBuilt‘s Chris Zimmer. Chris has been around the domestic tenkara scene virtually from day one, and it’s always interesting to learn a little more about the people behind the products we all love…
Skiddy’s Been Slaying
Our friend Payton Skidmore has been quite active on YouTube recently and his content has absolutely been awesome. Over the past few weeks he’s released three or four tenkara videos and a fly fishing video for good measure. This most recent video explores minimalism. And as such I won’t say any more…
A New DRAGONtail Rod on the Way Soon?
If you subscribe to DRAGONtail‘s email newsletter, you probably saw this tidbit from Brent, that the HYDRA v2 (Electric Boogaloo) may go up on pre-order as soon as this week! What?!?! He’s been teasing this rod for a little bit, so this is exciting news. Plus, Tom’s already got a review written and ready to go with all the weights, measures, and RFIs you crave once it releases…
New Book: Source to City
Source to City is one of the coolest book projects I’ve seen and tenkara plays a feature role. In short, the author Nick Thomas chronicles fishing a river system from its origin in the headwaters all the way down to the mouth and takes photos, notes, and journal observations along the way. The video below gives you a feel, but the book itself can be purchased on Amazon…
A Smidge of Self-Promotion
I wrote a post over at my personal blog, Troutrageous! yesterday that in retrospect, I probably should have published here instead. When We All Fished in the Same Place is about the early days of tenkara in the USA and how fun and electric those times were for those involved. If you’re an old head like me, I’m sure you’ll dig it. If you’re younger or newer to tenkara, you’ll probably be like, “OK Boomer.” (For the record, I’m Gen-X, or maybe Xennial if you believe in that stuff)…
DRAGONtail Kaida Unboxing
I absolutely love seeing tenkara enthusiasm. Ivan Zoot recently did an unboxing video of his new DRAGONtail Kaida, and you can just see how excited he is to add this rod to his quiver. Give it a look and maybe drop a comment on his video too…
Entomology & Tenkara
Visiting Reddit can be a mixed bag, but I love popping in there to see what people are talking about regarding my favorite topics. DarthVadersRoboHand posed the question “As a tenkara fisher, how much do you value entomology?“ Tenkara is notorious for its “one fly” mythology, so I was interested in what the comments had to say. You might be too…
Tenkara Angler February Article Roundup
Only four posts from Tenkara Angler this month… but quality over quantity, you know?
