Sunday Morning Riffles – 5/26/2024

Is everyone enjoying what I hope is a long weekend? I don’t know about you, but they turned the furnace on down here in Florida, it’s been in the mid-90s the past few days which is no bueno for me. So, I’ve been hiding indoors, which has been good for gathering Sunday Morning Riffles. This week’s edition is going to basically be all videos, but if you’ve got off Monday, you’ll have time to watch ’em all. Let’s take a peek at what we have this week…

What’s Up Mike Lutes!

Jared Willadsen from Tenkara Genki released the latest Talking Tenkara video, this time speaking to Mike Lutes, one of the co-founders of Badger Tenkara and a pretty interesting guy to discuss fixed line fishing with. Mike has a no nonsense approach to his fishing that I think most will appreciate…

Mr. Tenkara Making it Happen

They call him Mr. Tenkara for a reason, the fish respect his authority! Seriously, this video is extremely well shot and features some beautiful fish and fishing footage. Turn on those auto translated captions to get the most from this entry…

The New Fixed Line Appalachia Channel

Ben Colonnese has an unorthodox style with his fixed line rods, often employing plastic baits in his fishing. He recently started a YouTube channel to show off some of these techniques. Give it a look…

Tenkara Addict & The Bee

I don’t often post Tenkara Addict videos here. Nothing against Tristan, but by the time I write this post on Saturday, his latest video usually already has thousands of views and I figure you’d already watched it. That said, I’m going to drop it in this in this week anyway because the water is pretty, the fishing is lively, and he’s fishing an interesting fly, a somewhat realistic “bee” pattern. Buzzzzzzzzz…

Suntech Kurenai HM39R Review

Good ol’ Zane’s doin’ stuff again, this time fishing a Suntech Kurenai HM39R in a rocky mountain stream for rainbow trout. In this video he gives his thoughts on this rod’s strengths and weaknesses, with a little bit of humor mixed in…

A Smooth Operator

This isn’t really a tenkara video, rather a video by Outdoor Operator that just shows a camping trip, with a little bushcraft and tenkara mixed in. (The tenkara fishing starts at around 21 minutes). Otherwise, just enjoy the sounds of nature. I don’t really “get” the attraction of ASMR videos, but if you’re into them, I think you’ll really like this one…

Keegan’s MostlyTenkara

We’ve highlighted Keegan’s YouTube channel a few times. He’s recently rebranded it to focus on “MostlyTenkara“. In this video he fishes the DRAGONtail TalonMINI and tries out a new camera set up on-stream. He’s looking for feedback on this new to him type of videography, so let him know what you think…

Dr. Ishigaki Clinic

This video by TKCアカザ博士(ガサガサ&フィッシング🐟️) follows a group of novice tenkara anglers attending a clinic instructed by the Tenkara King himself, Dr. Hisao Ishigaki. The workshop was sponsored by the Harano Valley River Fisheries Cooperative Association in Kakegawa City, Shizuoka Prefecture.

Two Hours of Tenkara

The Japanese Mountain Stream Fishing Channel is dropping BIG videos again. You may recall we featured this channel’s long form videos in the past. Well, this one is almost two hours long, and features some tenkara and ayu fishing. It’s pretty cool to watch, especially once he changes up his tackle for ayu fishing at the very end…

Tenkara Angler Weekly Article Roundup

And lets not forget the three articles from Tenkara Angler this week…. On Monday, Mike put together a group recap from the Davidson River campout held by some members of the Appalachian Tenkara Anglers Facebook group. Spoiler alert, a good time was had by all… On Wednesday, we published an article from our 2024 print issue to our website, Tenkara Retreat in Northern Italy by Tommaso Fedele. Don’t forget to scroll to the bottom to “Listen In” to the audio version as read by Dave Rosset… And on Friday, the newest member of the Tenkara Angler team, Bill Robichaud kept things international, posting an article about The Swiss Way of Trout
