Hey, good to see you all again for this week’s installment of Sunday Morning Riffles. As we’re approaching July’s doorstep, the summer is an interesting time. In some mountain states, the trout fishing is just getting good, while in some other parts of the country, this is the time to break out the fixed-line tactics and target warmwater species. We’ve got an interesting mix of posts and videos this week to share from across the internet. They include new products, videos from California to Japan, and even some website housekeeping. So wherever you live and whatever you’re chasing, there’s a little bit for everyone in the latest Riffles…
A New Rod From Rocky MTN Tenkara
Rocky MTN Tenkara got all sneaky and dropped a brand new rod on us this week, without much warning. The Chupacabra is multi-position zoom rod that fishes at either 10.5′ or 12′, two of some of the most popular lengths. Personally, as a fan of the idea of cryptids, particularly this “goat sucker,” the naming of this rod is right up my alley…

Tenkara Fishing and Hammock Night
In this video, we follow Yoo Hoo Hike on a tenkara fishing and hammock camping excursion. This video is edited in such a way that really gives it an artistic feel, I enjoyed it a lot. I’ve never hammock camped, but it’s something I’d really like to try, perhaps toward the end of this summer. This video sure provides some great inspiration…
Tenkara USA’s New Flies
Tenkara USA also decided to release some new products this past week in the form of three new fly patterns, the Shio Koshō kebari, the Big Orange kebari, and the Little Olive soft hackle. The Shio Koshō is TJ Ferreira‘s signature “salt & pepper” kebari. Check them out and maybe add a few to your fly box…

Western Floating Lines for Tenkara Rods
In this video, Brian from Go Fishing Often details his recipe for building out a floating tenkara line. This is an update from a previous video, with a few tweaks that create some better results. Lines like this are PERFECT for fishing for warmwater species like bass & bluegill. There’s a lot of interesting videos on this channel, so make sure to stop by…
SPACE Trailers
The Summer means a lot of camping and outdoor activities. Anthony sent this SPACE Trailers link over for Matt & I to take a look at while we were up in the White Mountains, it’s a trailer that can basically become your personal adventure platform. You can pitch a tent and make a mini-mobile home on it, haul gear, carry bikes, boats, or anything else. It’s pretty slick if you’re looking for that sort of thing…

Wild California Golden Trout
When they say trout don’t live in ugly places, they mean it, especially when it comes to California golden trout. In this video MyOtherLine travels into the Sierra Nevada mountains to pursue native and wild California golden trout with both a DRAGONtail Mutant tenkara rod as well as an Ultralight spin rod and soft plastics. This isn’t a video where you’re going to learn advanced tenkara technique, but it sure gives you a feel for the beauty of such a special area of the country…
Apologies!
It appears we’ve been having some issues with our article submission form “eating” people’s posts! I had two people in the last week double check that we received their submissions (we did not). So, I removed and reinstalled the pesky plugin, and after a few test submissions, it seems to be working again. So apologies if you tried to send something in and never received an acknowledgment from us. Feel free to use the form again, or simply email them to staff@tenkaraangler.com.

Sebata Tying Class
Fishin’ 106 captured a few moments of a recent kebari tying tutorial held by Takahisa Sebata in Kawaji Onsen. There is also a second video that shows on-stream instruction and fishing footage. Make sure to have subtitles and translation on for both videos…
Tenkara Angler Weekly Article Roundup
Three articles from Tenkara Angler this week…. first up, we ran two articles from the latest print issue of Tenkara Angler magazine. On Monday, Mike Graham‘s “Passing it On” looked back at last year’s tenkara gathering in New Hampshire as well as him taking those learnings home to introduce his son to tenkara. On Wednesday, Dennis Vander Houwen listed his “Unwritten Rules of Fishing Etiquette” with a firm pinky finger extended. And on Friday, we crowd-sourced a recap of the 2024 White Mountains Tenkara Campout using quotes and photos provided by the organizer and a few attendees. Give ’em a look (or listen, in the case of the first two)…
