The DRAGONtail IceWING zx390 zoom tenkara rod has been making the rounds in prototype form for quite some time. Today, this successor to the highly popular Mutant is finally available for purchase.

For those that like softer, full flex rods, this three-position zoom model right may be just what you’re looking for. Our own Tom Davis was one of the first lucky anglers to take the prototype out and he wrote up this rod teaser review back in May of 2023.

Whether this is the rod for you or not, one really has to be impressed with the work DRAGONtail has put into rod development over the past few years. First, the wildly successful TalonMINI 310 pocket rod, next the big fish Ragnarok 400, then the high-performance NIRVANA Kokoro, and now the soft, yet versatile IceWING zx390. Seems like this could be a perfect addition to the rod quiver of many a tenkara angler.
