Silence That Seat Belt

Silence That Seat Belt - Tenkara Angler - Tom Davis

From time to time when I’m on the river I’ll have a desire to move from one spot to another. Most of the time this involves getting in my pickup and driving a short distance on a dirt road. To do this, I have to climb in with my gear belt and chest pack on (I’m too lazy to take them off), and then buckle my seat belt. It’s a pain to do all this, especially just for a short hop along the river. I know I could leave me belt unbuckled, but I find the seat belt alarm to be really annoying and it seems to go on forever.

This season I’ve been using something to help with that situation. I bought a couple of dog seat belt restraints from an on-line store named after a large river in South America. When I’m on the river, I clip one of these into the receptacle of my seat belt as soon as I arrive. Then, when I need to drive upstream or down, all I have to do is get in the pickup and drive — I don’t have to mess with the seat belt or hear the alarm.

The clip I bought has a long piece of webbing that I hang from my seat headrest post. I know that I could have bought a seat belt silencer without a strap, but it really convenient to have the strap and just hand the silencer out of the way when not in use. Besides, these seat belt silencers were really inexpensive for a pack of two!

Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not suggesting you drive without proper seat belt restraint — do so at your own risk. But if you find short distance moves on stream to be a pain due to your seat belt (and its alarm), then maybe these would work for you too. Happy fishing!
