White Mountains Tenkara Campout 2026
June 5-7, 2026
Barnes Field Campground – Gorham, New Hampshire
Save the Date! The Northeast’s premier tenkara gathering, take advantage of the miles of beautiful brook trout water in New Hampshire’s White Mountains. Organized by Bill Holleran, formerly of Red Brook Tenkara, we will post more details as things are finalized. In the meantime, keep an eye on the event’s Facebook group page.
Wyoming Tenkara Campout 2026
August 27-30, 2026
Alpine North Loop Campground – Outside Alpine, Wyoming
Presented by DRAGONtail Tenkara
After last year’s successful Idaho Tenkara Campout, DRAGONtail is moving the venue to Wyoming! It will be held near Alpine Wyoming at the ALPINE NORTH LOOP Group Campground in the Caribou-Targhee National Forest. They have reserved 3 medium sized group campsite loops (GS1, GS2, GS3) next to each other. GS1 has a larger parking area and is in the middle so there will be a large meeting area to hang out in the mornings or evenings between fishing and some extra space if you want to camp with the group. Admission is free, but registration is recommended and will open in early 2026. There is also a Facebook Event page to keep up with discussion.

Western North Carolina Tenkara Meet-Up/Campout
March 27-30, 2025
Kuykendall Group Campground, Brevard, North Carolina
Presented by the Heritage Tenkara Project
Amanda Hoffner will be hosting a tenkara group camp in the in the Pisgah National Forest of western North Carolina. The tentative schedule and agenda includes a social meetup Friday evening at a local Brevard spot, a Saturday evening campfire at the group camp, participation of some local vendors, and of course, tons of fishing during the day! The campsite is free to the first 60 planning to attend (15 cars), but there are several other local campgrounds and Airbnbs nearby for overflow.
Tenkara Tanuki Boot Camp (Western North Carolina)
May 17-18, 2025
Mary C. Jenkins Community Center – Brevard, North Carolina
Presented by Tenkara Tanuki
A two-day intensive learning about fly fishing with a tenkara rod. Featuring lecture-style and PowerPoint presentations by Luong Tam, Robert Worthing, Amanda Hoffner, and local fishing guides Ben Colonnese and Chris Jameson. The second day will feature casting and opportunties to fish. There is a Facebook Event page with some additional information. Paid registration is required.
The Great Wisconsin Driftless Tenkara Campout
May 23-25, 2025
Esofea Campground – Westby, Wisconsin
Presented by Tenkara Wisconsin Facebook Group
An annual free to attend event held in the beautiful Driftless Area of Wisconsin. Several days of fishing will be followed by nights of food, fun, and storytelling. A few group sites have been reserved for campers, but those interested are highly encouraged to contact the organizers via their Facebook Group event page to insure there is still available space. Participation in group meals for a small fee. Plenty of additional camping is available on site for a modest charge.
Want to fish the Iowa Driftless beforehand? Dave Noll & Paul Lengeling have reserved sites 3 and 4 at the Park Campground in Waukon, Iowa for the nights of May 19-21. The park manager said they would only charge $5 a night for extra tents. If anyone wants to bring a camper the fee is $25 a night and includes the showers and free firewood. Women’s Tenkara Fly Fishing 101

Amanda Hoffner will be leading a women’s introduction to tenkara class on behalf of the Connecticut Department of Energy & Environmental Protection as part of their Becoming an Outdoors-Woman program. Learn Tenkara Fly Fishing

Hendersonville Outfitters has teamed up with Heritage Tenkara Project and Amanda Hoffner to host a 4 hour class on tenkara fly fishing. There are 4 Spots for August 9th and four spots for August 10th. This class will allow you to put skills into practice on waterfall covered creeks! Colorado Tenkara Camp 2025
September 26-29, 2025
Arkansas River Headwaters Recreational Area at Five Points – Salida, Colorado
Presented by Tenkara Social Club – Colorado
This is the First Annual Colorado Tenkara Camp! It will be held at the “Arkansas River Headwaters Recreation Area” hosted by Paul Vertrees, Dennis Vander Houwen, Jonathan Antunez, and the Tenkara Social Club – Colorado. This campout is limited to 20 anglers and requires free registration, sign up here. (Note: Registration is currently full, but you can still register and be added to the waitlist should anyone cancel.)
Tenkara Tanuki Boot Camp (Eastern Sierras)
