Wasatch Tenkara Rods is a U.S.-based tenkara rod company founded by Ruben Garza, operating out of Ogden, Utah, at the foot of the Wasatch Mountains. Rooted in a personal journey of frustration with fragile tenkara rods, Garza committed to producing exceptionally durable, adventure-ready fishing tools with strong action built for “big fish” and rugged conditions.
Launched around 2020, Wasatch quickly developed a reputation for using premium reinforced carbon fiber, launching rods designed for serious anglers targeting trout, pike, bass, steelhead and other powerful species, many of whom had previously experienced rod breakage on their first tackle. Despite its Western roots, the company’s impact has reached fixed-line anglers across North America.
Wasatch’s design philosophy centers on strength, stiffness, and reach, often at the expense of ultra-lightness. Their rods typically feature fast-action flex, extended lengths, and coaxing capacity to fish big water confidently. Handling warranty and customer support personally, Garza ensures every rod meets demanding field standards.
Early Wasatch gear testers often commented that their prototype rods survived fish fights that would destroy traditional tenkara gear. This led to models like the Daikyu T‑Hunter, a triple zoom 12′–15′ rod combining high flex and resilience, the Akai Samurai, and RodZilla models gaining great success.
