So, we weren’t joking yesterday when we said that the Tenkara Angler team received some production samples of the new DRAGONtail Tenkara FoxFIRE fiberglass hybrid rod to play around with. I hope you had good humor and enjoyed the teaser video Jason shared yesterday. Because we’re certainly “never gonna give you up, never gonna let you down…” 😉

In any event, the FoxFIRE definitely looks like it’s going to be a fun (albeit short) rod. It certainly passes the infamous “wiggle” test if your looking for something bendy and flexy. (Some top rate rod adjectives if you ask me). And those translucent blue fiberglass bottom sections are definitely sexy. Paging Cameron Mortenson!

Now, I’m personally not going to be anywhere near trout in the next few weeks, but I promise to take it out this upcoming weekend (weather permitting) and do some very untenkara things with it, like fish for bruiser bluegill with the possibility of some largemouth bass bycatch. I live in Florida, so maybe I’ll hook a gator while I’m at it.
Let’s face it, a good portion of tenkara rods in the United States get used for way more things other than trout, so it’s still probably a valid test. While the FoxFIRE was designed for thin blue lines, I’m sure at least a few of you will want to know how it fares on fat green ponds.

We know the game, and we’re gonna play it…”
