When we launched our Listen In series of audio articles back in January, we thought it was a good idea to be able to bring the years of stories told on these pages to a different format that favored more passive consumption.
While you seemed to like the general concept as well, we get it, you really didn’t like to listen to our “robot” reading these articles. And to be truthful, we didn’t love it either, but as an experiment in trying new things, it was worth a shot.
So instead of continuing down that path, we decided to decommission C-3PO and find our Obi-Wan. Or perhaps more appropriately, James Earl Jones. With no further delay, I’m happy to announce that Dave Rosset, who is in fact a living, breathing person, (I swear), will be voicing the majority of our Listen In audio articles moving forward.

For those that don’t know him, Dave is a fixed line angler from Iowa who enjoys all of the fly fishing opportunities the region provides. If you plan on attending this year’s Wisconsin Tenkara Campout, you might even run into him.
With that news, we hope you enjoy the first installment of our Dave Rosset voiced audio articles, A Different Drift, written by David West Beale.
Editor’s Note: We hope you find Dave Rosset’s voice as enjoyable to listen to as we do, and we look forward to hearing him tell everyone’s favorite fixed line fishing stories. However, we would also like to extend the invitation for any author that has submitted an article to Tenkara Angler in the past (or future), to give an audio recording of their article(s) a go. There’s no better voice for one’s story than the person that wrote it. If you’re interested in doing such, feel free to reach out to mike@tenkaraangler.com for more details. With today’s technology, it’s far easier than you might think.
Do you have a story to tell? A photo to share? A fly recipe that’s too good to keep secret? If you would like to contribute content to Tenkara Angler, click HERE for more details.
I’m glad the robot is gone. Dave is a great choice. He has a excellent voice for it and I think would bring back the “human” element to these. But it was a good idea for an experiment. You never know until you try, right?
That’s how we looked at it. Gave the text-to-speech a try. Didn’t think it sounded that bad, but still not as good as a person. Certainly not as good as Dave!
Well this is a very big improvement. Relaxing and REAL voice will always be more enjoyable than any robot voice ever invented. Thank you for this change. It is the first of these essays that I listened to all the way to the end and I liked it very much.
You’re welcome. We like Dave’s voice as well. Not to tease too much, but his next installment is even better.
I love it! Way to go, Dave!
