In Episode 12 of the Tenkara Angler Level Line Podcast, Anthony, Matt, and Mike chat about the “little things” in their fishing that make a BIG difference in how productive their outings become. They also discuss some holiday presents, the winter fly box, fantasy tenkara gear, play another round of overrated / underrated, and outline the 2024 Oni Tenkara Intensive in North Carolina.
Also, there’s a little contest Anthony is generously running, but you’ll need to listen to the podcast and comment on our YouTube video to enter. Check it out!

Nice discussion, guys!
For Matt: https://www.agmglobalvision.com/thermal-imaging-and-fishing#:~:text=Since%20a%20thermal%20imaging%20camera,fishing%20solely%20for%20finding%20fish.
For Mike and Anthony: Nirvana-on-the-Fly is starting to produce rods in Korea. Their 360 cm rod, dubbed the Falcon, will be Japanese quality with US availability. Korean companies have a long history of trying to outdo their Japanese counterparts in terms of functionality and quality. They often succeed in doing so. And of course, there’s the TenkaraBum line of rods. Although they are made in Japan, they are essentially US tenkara company products. Once Chris gets fully stocked again, replacement parts and customer service will be readily available for those rods.
Happy New Years, guys!
That works for me Tom! Have heard good things from you on the Falcon and am looking forward to fishing it! Sounds like it could be a wonderful companion to the Ragnarok.
I should clarify that it makes no difference where a rod is produced (one of my favorite “Japanese” rods is made in Indonesia) I’d just love to see more energy put into single length rods by the domesitc brands so they are more than the “entry level” rod in thier lineups. Make them lighter, with thinner walls, fiddle with the flex profiles on shorter versions or longer versions depending on intended application. All that fun stuff. Offer a complete series (like the Zerosum, Royal Stage, or Kiwami) where there’s a common, elevated tenkara rod that comes in different lengths. There is room for that in the market.
Happy New Year!
