It’s Sunday again… last week went so fast… so it’s time for the Sunday Morning Riffles. This week’s installment has a trio of videos – including a trip report, a gear review, and a fly tying tutorial. There’s also some Facebook-related news, articles showing us (okay, me) how to not be such a fatty, how to introduce kids to fly fishing, and then some manga that I’m not exactly sure how I feel after reading. And of course the typical week in review from the pages of Tenkara Angler. Enjoy!
Addicted to Winter C&R!
It’s Japan. It’s cold. It’s catch & release fishing. It’s an entertaining video from fishin’ 106 on YouTube. While the fishing isn’t stellar, there’s enough action to grab your attention, and even more cartoony graphics to make sure you don’t leave…
Appalachian Tenkara Anglers Kebari Swap
There’s a kebari swap going on over at the Appalachian Tenkara Anglers Facebook Group. Tie a dozen or buy a dozen and send them in to Amanda by the end of March and you’re in! These events are always fun, and we’ve documented several in the past. We look forward to doing it again…

Yeah, I Don’t Know What This Is
I’m not sure why, but I feel a little weird looking at this. It’s certainly innocent enough (I think?). Anyway, it’s a multi-page comic where some girls go fishing. They reference tenkara rods, but I’d call this fixed line fly fishing. They’re on some sort of pier with floats, bait, and all sorts of other random things. Like I said, weird…

Aventik Fiberglass Review
I’m not really up on the latest and greatest from Aventik, but they’ve got an all fiberglass tenkara rod called the Zeno, and Nic from Into Fly Fishing gave it a wiggle. It’s a surprisingly thorough review, if by chance this rod is something you might be interested in…
Time to Get Fishing Fit
The winter months are rarely kind on one’s waistline. I know I’m not looking forward to pulling up those waders this Spring. There was a great article by MeatEater regarding getting fit for western hunting that also totally applies to headwaters fly fishing – long hikes, scrambling over obstacles, and the need for a strong core for on stream balance. Check it out and get moving…

A New Facebook Group for Maine
A new Facebook group for tenkara anglers in Maine got going this past week. “Tenkara Flyfishers of Maine” looks like a great opportunity for some local meetups and intel exchange for those in that corner of the country. Join up and get chatting…

Kebari Art
This one’s rather straightforward, Fly Art Gallery ties a sakasa kebari in this video. No unnecessary commentary, no gnarly unkempt fingernails, just some classical music that goes hard right up until the whip finish at the end…
Teaching Kids to Fly Fish with the Ancient Art of Tenkara
Author Steve Hudson wrote an opinion piece for Perimeter (Georgia) about how tenkara is an ideal way to introduce kids to fly fishing and the outdoors while creating future stewards of the streams. Kids do seem to pick up tenkara quickly, so don’t hesitate to get a rod in their hands…

Tenkara Angler Weekly Article Roundup
Only two articles from Tenkara Angler this week…. On Monday, Tom dropped one of his patented rod reviews, this time focusing on the Shimano Tenpyo Tenkara 36. On Wednesday we played hooky, just because we could. And on Friday, we posted an article from fixed line angler Arran Kerr about the tactics & techniques he uses on stream. Give ’em a look, they’re both really good…
Shimano 2023 Tenpyo Tenkara 36 Rod Review
I recently purchased the 2023 version of Shimano’s entry level tenkara rod, the Shimano Tenpyo Tenkara 36. I’ve always liked Shimano rods,…
Fixed Line Tactics & Techniques
Article by Arran Kerr I often find myself looking for ways to improve my fixed line abilities. There are no shortage of guides…
