Previous Q&A Podcast

In the meantime you can enjoy listening back to the previous Q&A podcast…

In Episode 7 of the Tenkara Angler Level Line Podcast Anthony & Jason give some topical updates and field reader submitted questions with some assistance from Mike, Matt and Tom. Interesting questions covered include clear tenkara lines, euronymphing, “go to” tenkara rods, getting kids started with tenkara, and the future plans for the podcast.

Anthony also spends time with special guest Paul Vertrees of Royal Gorge Anglers for an extended “deep dive” on tenkara rod tactics for large tailwaters. It’s a very detailed but concise look at what considerations must be made when fishing a fixed line rod in such an environment. We can’t thank Paul enough for joining us!

  1. I’m new to Tenkara and loving it. I also enjoy your podcast! I am wondering about level lines and furled lines. It seems like almost everyone uses level lines almost exclusively. But I find that furled lines tend to cast a little easier. Why are level lines the standard? What are the differences in casting and fishing between level and furled lines? Are level lines really that much better than furled? What do you guys use most often?

  2. Do you have a go to when all else falls fly ?
What is the one tenkara skill new tenkara anglers should learn?

  3. I fish alot of Tailwaters, so I’d like to know how or if your personal game changes when you decide to fish one. Fly selection, method, overall approach, etc. Thanks ya’ll. Love the podcast!

  4. I’ve recently experienced a couple of mid-rod breakages under load on two different rods. Neither was associated with an anomalous stressing event (e.g., snag, hook set, etc.). I am religious about cleaning and drying my rod blanks after each use. The only common factor was the ambient air temperature, which was below the freezing mark during both occurrences. Some research papers suggest the epoxy used in carbon fiber manufacturing can become brittle in cold temperatures. Do you know of any articles or have personal experiences that could shed light on tenkara rod strength as a function of temperature?
