Sunday Morning Riffles – 3/31/2024

You can tell people are finally getting into fishing mode because the amount of content being produced in the Tenkara-verse has definitely picked up as of late. As such, we’ve got a full basket of goodies in our Easter Sunday Morning Riffles!

But perhaps to the most pressing question at hand, what’s your favorite Easter candy? Put your fave in the comments in the bottom of this post!

(There are no wrong answers, although the only correct one is Reese’s Eggs. I’ll never turn down a Cadbury Creme Egg or those candy shelled Whoppers Robin Eggs either.)

DIY Tenkara Lanyard Spool System

Looks like Tenkara Dave is up to some DIY goodness, hacking some foam line spools he had into something resembling a Tenkara USA Keeper Spool. Albeit a bunch lighter and able to be worn on a lanyard. Get out your box cutters and rare earth magnets and give this a try…

Guide Service in Western North Carolina

Looking to go on a guided tenkara outing in Western North Carolina? Well, Ben Colonnese has launched his Fixed Line Appalachia website and guiding service out of the Asheville, NC area and looks to be offering very reasonable rates for half and full day sessions…

How To Set Up Your Tenkara Level Line

Payton Skidmore from Skiddy Fishing put together a tight little video showing how he sets up his level line on a tenkara rod using a slip knot and a stopper knot. This is often the most commonly asked information by new tenkara anglers after purchasing their first rods…

A New Rod from Tenkara Rod Co.?

Tenkara Rod Co. alerted email subscribers last week that a new pack rod named the HAFU was coming soon. While no other details were shared, from what I can tell, it looks a little bit like the river peak Sangaku Special, at least cosmetically. If you’re a fan of pack and pocket rods, it looks like there will be a new option to consider shortly…

Flicky in the Driftless

I’m a huge fan of the Driftless Area… and a huge fan of Flicky Flies YouTube videos. Put the two together, and well, you can see where I’m going here. I’m so happy Chris was able to visit the Driftless again and capture its natural beauty in only the way he can. Oh, and there’s smallies too…

Wax Those Loops!

It’s been quite some time since Paul Vertrees has posted to this Tenkara Tracks blog. Before this week, his last post was from 2020 (and about Tenkara Angler). Well, this week he came off the top rope and dropped a new post about waxing the connection loops on the TTN and TFL lines he builds and sells through Royal Gorge Anglers, but this info could certainly be used on any line that features a girth hitch connection…

A New Tenkara Talk Podcast

Jason Klass and his Tenkara Talk Podcast just dropped its 13th episode, featuring an interview with Chuck Kaminski about “The Lost Art of the Basics in Flyfishing.” It’s a great conversation that gets into some helpful tips and resources to improve your angling game. Plus, Jason has started posting his podcast to YouTube, so you can now watch as well as listen…

Simplifying… and the one that got away

Author Steve Hudson recently wrote an opinion piece about the simplicity in his tenkara fishing (and gear) as well as a humorous result of a recent outing in north Georgia. It’s a fun, quick read so I encourage you to take a look…

The Latest from Genryu Izakaya

The Genryu Izakaya team is back on the streams… and boy, do they do it right. In this latest video, they fish, prepare streamside meals, and sleep under blue tarps surrounded by some of the most beautiful tenkara waters you’d ever see. When I dream about headwaters fishing, this is usually what I see…

Tenkara Angler Weekly Article Roundup

Only two articles from Tenkara Angler this week…. well, actually only one article, and one video. On Monday, Anthony introduced what we hope become a new video series called Tenkara Moves. He spoke to Amanda Hoffner about what she does on the water, and there is some really interesting information shared. On Wednesday, Tom wrote an ode to the Gnarly Fly. A pattern popularized by Jason Sparks that is messy in all the right ways. If you missed either, please take a peek…

  1. Reese’s eggs and Jelly Beans for me. Used to like the Palmer chocolate bunnies, but they don’t seem the same anymore
