Kebari & Fly Tying

Tenkara Angler Fall 2025 Kebari Swap

Let’s do a Community Kebari Swap!

With the summer quickly coming to a close, we thought it might be a fun idea to hold a “Fall 2025 Kebari Swap” here at Tenkara Angler. Our friend Chuck Grimmett has volunteered to be our “Kebari Coordinator” for this event. He’s going to lay down the rules, details, and deadlines. If you want to participate, you’ll register using the form included in this post and then send him your flies – exactly how he asks for them. Once received, he’ll consolidate, pack ’em up, and send a mixed assortment of feathered goodies back out your way when the time is right. Sound good?

Rules:

Kebari Coordinator
Chuck Grimmett
Contact: chuck@grimmett.co

Send in 12 flies, get 12 flies back!
This event may have a large number of participants. Everyone will receive a random sampling of the submitted flies. Please “toe tag” each of your flies with a small slip of paper listing your name and pattern name. Preferred hook size range is barbless or pinched, #16 – #8.

“Tie or Buy” a dozen of the same flies for exchange.
This means that non-tying anglers can buy flies from a shop or online tyer and submit them to this swap. So, whether you tie flies or not, you can participate. This allows all of our friends to be a part of it. This is an inclusive community event.

Deadlines & Timing
Active tying period to conclude by 10/15/2025. Any flies postmarked after October 15th will be excluded. The EVENT IS OPEN NOW. Get to tying, and don’t be late!

Registration
Please use the registration form below to submit your name to register for participation. Chuck will reply with the mailing address to registered participants only. Chuck reserves the right to close reservations if the number of participants is proves too large to handle.

REGISTRATION IS NOW FULL, THANK YOU TO ALL THAT PARTICIPATED

Shipping Instructions
All submissions MUST include a “self-addressed envelope with pre-paid return postage” so that Chuck can send your set back to you. Flies submitted without a return envelope or pre-paid postage will not get a return set. Correct postage is submitter’s responsibility.

This is a “mail-in event” and there will not be any in-person component. Tie your flies, mail them in, receive your swap set in the mail within a few weeks. There is no physical address to meet for this event.

REMEMBER: include a return envelope with pre-paid postage addressed to YOU for your swap flies.

Questions?
Please use the comments field below to ask any general questions you might have about the rules above – as answers to your questions may benefit all that wish to participate. Alternately, Chuck can also be contacted directly with any questions at chuck@grimmett.co.

Have Fun and Happy Tying!!!

  1. Love this idea. Thanks Mike and Chuck for organizing this. Not a tyer myself, so I’ll go digging into my inventory for a contribution…

    1. I’ve never participated in one of these before, is a regular envelope all you need? Or should it be a padded one or something like that?

      1. It’s up to you. I’ve used both in the past. I would just recommend putting your flies in some sort of container – empty mint tin, little plastic fly box or pouch, etc… So whatever sounds of outer envelope will handle that (+plus your return envelope).

  2. Do the flies need to specifically be a feathered Kebari or are unfeathered flies like Killer Bugs acceptable as well?
