Tenkara Trip Reports Trout & Char Video

Driftless 2026 – Six Days of Trout Fishing in Southwest Wisconsin

Anthony, Dave, and I spent six days chasing trout through the spring creek country of the southwest Wisconsin Driftless Area in and around the 2026 Midwest Tenkara Fest. This video is a very, very small sampling of what went down out there. While it’s not a masterpiece of cinematography or fish catching prowess, I made a commitment to myself that I’d actually try to record a little bit of the fishing this year for our YouTube channel.

If you like it, let us know in the comments section below, or even better, in the comments section of the video. Enjoy!

Fair warning: I brought along an Insta360 Go Ultra action camera for the first time this trip and I’m still not quite dialed in on remembering to hit record while I’m actually fishing. I only used it on 3 of the 7 streams we visited so some of the best moments, and more than a few good fish, never made it to the memory card. It’s probably better that way. What did make it? Plenty of streamside banter, good water, and a reminder of why we return to the Driftless each year.

  1. Nice work. Captures the feel. We had a lot of wind in Madison and I was thinking of you guys and wondering how bad it was over there. Looks like you were fishing a rod in the 360 to 400 range? What rod? Line about 3 to 4 ft. longer than the rod?

    1. Thanks for the comments/question Jeff.

I was fishing 3 rods in the video. In order:
      1. Nissin Oni Honryu 395
      2. Nissin Zerosum 360
      3. DRAGONtail Kaida 320

(Anthony fished the Three Rivers Confluence & DRAGONtail IceWing while we were there, and I believe Dave fished the Tanuki 375, DRAGONtail Mizuchi, & Tenkara USA Yama.

I’m lazy with my lines so I was using the same one with both the 395 and the 360. It was about 14.5′ long length of level line with ~3 feet of tippet on the end.
