Sunday Morning Riffles – 6/7/2026

Happy Sunday! It’s June already… what the heck? Hope our friends in New Hampshire are wrapping up a great weekend of fishing and camaraderie on a high note. Bummed I couldn’t make it up this year, but it just wasn’t in the cards. However, if you’ve got a case of FOMO like me, perhaps today’s trip through the news and notes of the tenkara world will help take off a bit of the edge.

Now, let’s wade into those Riffles…

Native Colorado Cutthroats

Z is on the river recently posted this gem of a video fishing for native cutthroat trout in Colorado. With remnants of snow still on the ground, this is a very relaxing watch and features some really beautiful fish…

April Vokey Talks to Jonathan Antunez

April Vokey is a BIG deal in the fly fishing world. She’s interviewed all the big names over the years, and our friend Jonathan Antunez sat down with her recently to talk about everything fixed line fishing – its history, tactics, and the reasons why what’s old should be new again. It’s a great listen…

Skiddy & Keegan Tag Team

The Rock N Roll Express, the Road Warriors, the Hart Foundation… when you think about the best tag teams in history, perhaps you should now add Skiddy & Keegan to the list. This video they made in Utah together is just fun. We just need a tag team name for them (suggestions in the comments please!)…

Interview with Tony Parmenter

Nick Parish, who runs the popular fly fishing website Current Flow State, published a very interesting Q&A with Tony Parmenter, about how he includes tenkara in his EMDR therapy sessions. If that sounds familiar, you may recognize Tony from his Seiyu Therapy line of tenkara rods…

Big Happenings with Tenkara Addict

Tristan Higbee over at Tenkara Addict has a lot going on. First, congratulations, as he and his wife Cassie are expecting their first child! From there he announced that he started a Patreon and wrote a book, launched a new website, and is planning an epic journey to the arctic (which is better explained over at SUV RVing). Anyway, get the skinny on all of it in the video below

A New Nissin Tenkara Rod Family?

I love the Royal Stage rods from Nissin. I think they’re awesome. I was over at the Nissin website recently and noticed they had listed a new Royal Stage rod family, called the Royal Stage Tenkara Zen. I’m not sure if this will eventually replace the O.G. Royal Stage, but it’s seems like a rather nice rod series. Paging Tom Davis!

Karin Miller on Smart to Fish Wild

Smart to Fish Wild is an interesting podcast, a little bit different as it’s not just about fishing, but leadership, financial strategy, and other topics. Mark Candler sat down with Zen Tenkara’s Karin Miller to talk a little bit about uncomplicating fly fishing…

Fishing for Knowledge

Here’s a fun one! Kelsey and Taylor Pfaff, a married couple and elementary school teachers from Lancaster, PA, scored a $10,000 grant from Fund for Teachers to spend the summer fishing their way across Japan, all in the name of improving their classroom curriculum. The duo hit up fishing villages, pearl diving spots, koi farms, salmon aquariums, and learned tenkara along the way…

Tenkara Angler Article Roundup

Tenkara Angler’s been a bit lively too, so if you haven’t taken a spin through the most recent posts, now’s a great time to do so. Bill took us fishing (and eating) in PortugalAmanda hosted our first women’s-only podcast. I think we should have another one soon… Dennis compiled some thoughts from a recent trip to Japan in a new Tenkara Lifestyles… and our friend Hiro checked in from Nikko with a trip report…
