Sunday Morning Riffles – 8/9/2026

Happy Sunday! Personally, it’s been a slow week on the tenkara front. My (real) job has been keeping me cooped up during the day and up late at night and I haven’t spent much time creating or consuming much tenkara content, much less fishing. So this week’s edition of the Riffles are just as much for me, as they are for you. I need my tenkara fix bad! I hope your first full week of August was substantially more fishy than mine.

Anyway, let’s wade into those Riffles…

An Iowa Legend, Immortalized

Tenkara Genki spent a day on the water with “Iowa Legend” Gary Mineart out in the Wisconsin Driftless, and turned it into a fun video. There’s something great about these “meet the regulars” videos. Every region has a Gary, and it’s nice to see one get his due…

Yosemite, Officially Out of Office

Over on r/Tenkara, u/Teetimeleather shared a beautiful little session in Yosemite, tossing line against that unmistakable granite backdrop. El Capitan makes everybody’s cast look better, but still, nicely done…

A Vote for “The Book”

If you’ve somehow made it this deep into tenkara without reading Daniel Galhardo’s Tenkara, TJ Ferreira wants to fix that. He picked up a copy and made his case for why it’s still the best single resource on the sport, IMHO and otherwise…

Breaking In the Next Generation

Matt Rose posted a mixed bag from a recent creek session over on Facebook where the #canepolekid broke in his new Tenkara Rod Co. rod and busted off some nice fish in the process. Nothing like watching a kid land fish after fish on fixed line to remind you why we all got into this…

Mousing Hits Different When Your Rod Glows

Wasatch Tenkara Rods took their WTR Siyco, the world’s first full glow-in-the-dark tenkara rod, out after dark to mouse for browns, and the resulting clip is exactly as fun as it sounds. Two minutes, several eats, one very good reason to stay out past your bedtime…

Tellico River Weekend

Also from the subreddit, u/fantasticmrfox23 posted up from the Tellico River and Sycamore Creek, complete with a carousel of gorgeous rainbows to show for it. Forty-plus upvotes says the community approves of this outing…

Tenkara Rides a Motorcycle, Finds Sunflowers

Maciej Targoni packed a tenkara rod onto his motorcycle and went looking for water in, of all places, the flattest sunflower fields in Poland. The result is short, a little goofy, and a nice reminder that this sport travels well no matter how far from a mountain stream you end up…

The Great Budget Rod Debate, Continued

u/Several-Mention-7309 picked up an 8′ Aventik off Amazon and took it streamside, and the resulting thread is a good reminder that the “which budget rod is worth it” conversation never really ends around here. Worth a scroll through the comments…

Three Years of Heritage

Heritage Tenkara Project hit their third anniversary this week, and Amanda and the crew marked the occasion on Instagram with a well-earned thank-you to the community that’s grown up around them. Between this and the Women’s Tenkara Gathering registration that opened last week, it’s been a big stretch for the organization. Congrats to the whole team…

Tenkara Angler Article Roundup

Just the one from us since last time, but it’s a fun one! Tom Davis shared his method for refreshing tired, careworn flies with nothing more than a little steam. Cheap, easy, and it works on futsu and soft hackles alike. Give it a try before you toss those sad-looking kebari…
