Sunday Morning Riffles – 10/25/2026

Happy Sunday! After a long weekend in North Carolina fishing with friends, it was certainly tough to get back into the groove this past week. What makes it worse is that it may have been my last tenkara fishing trip for the season. (I hope not!) If you’re still getting out, good on you. If you’re done for the year, the videos and posts below are the next best thing.

Anyway, let’s wade into those Riffles…

Unlikely Natives

Tenkara Addict heads to the middle of absolutely nowhere in search of a western US native trout that doesn’t get nearly the press it deserves. Fresh off the upload button as I write this, and a nice reminder that some of the best water is the water nobody talks about. Watch it here…

The “Perfect” Rod Debate (Again)

MostlyTenkara takes on the eternal question of what makes a perfect tenkara rod, from big cutthroat in tiny creeks to pocket rods for trail running, with a stop at the rod-under-$50 question. Grab a coffee, there are chapters, and you will absolutely have opinions by the end. Watch it here…

Mark Your Calendar: Tenkara Bug Out 2027

u/TheJewBakka shared Tenkara Tanuki’s announcement on r/Tenkara that the Tenkara Bug Out is headed to La Pine, Oregon, June 11-13, 2027, and the thread filled up fast. Folks who went this year described a mix of fishing time, classes, riverside demos and a gear swap. The whole conversation is here on Reddit…

Fishing with Brent Auger

Teton Tenkara is back with episode 583 (yes, 583!) and a day on the water with Brent Auger, the DRAGONtail guy many of us met, or wish we’d met, at the Wyoming campout. Watch it here…

Chupacabra Season in New Mexico

Rocky MTN Tenkara takes us to New Mexico for some October fishing featuring their Chupacabra rod model. I’m into it. Watch it here…

High Water, Happy Ending

Takashi Murokoshi posted to the Japanese テンカラ釣りクラブ (Tenkara Fishing Club) group on Facebook about a day when every local stream was running high, so he made the trip to a farther one, only to find it swollen too. Rather than give up, he picked a stream that looked fishable, even with some murky water, and the fish responded. See the post on Facebook…

Driftless, Episode 141

Tenkara in the Iowa Driftless is up to Vlog #141, which is the kind of quiet persistence I admire in a channel. Spring creeks, rolling hills, and a pace that makes you want to slow down your own morning. Watch it here…

Gems in the Colorado Rockies

z is on the river goes searching for gems in the heart of the Colorado Rockies, tenkara dry fly style. Dry flies in October feel like getting away with something. Watch it here…

48 Fish and a Chipped Hook

ShouJ (@Jimnynori) posted from the water in Japan this week: a run of misses traced back to a chipped hook tip, a very energetic fish, and a final tally of 48 on six rods, with a sore arm to show for it. That is a good problem to have. See the post on X…

Closing Out the Trout Season

Tenkara Obsession wraps up the 2026 trout season with a closing-out video, and I felt that one in my bones. Season-enders always hit a little differently, don’t they? Watch it here…

Power Zoom Meets Brown Town

Skiddy Fishing takes a Keiryu Rod Co. Power Zoom 490 out to Utah for nearly 27 minutes of “Brown Town”… Bonus points for a title that makes me smile every time. Watch it here…

Tenkara Angler Article Roundup

Plenty of good reading on the site since the last Riffles. Tom Davis recaps the Wyoming campout, Ivan Zoot relocates to Cincinnati and has to learn moving water nearly from scratch, Corina Cathomen sits out the season for the trout’s sake, then squeezes in a one-day license before the closure, our Japan trip coverage continues with the last full day at Hatcho-no-Yu, and Mike Lutes retires his 15-year-old tamo net after a big brown trout, and makes the case for Tenkara USA bringing it back.

Achievement Unlocked

Thursday was our last full day at Hatcho-no-Yu, and that was a little bittersweet. We were all just starting to feel comfortable…
