Happy Sunday! I hope everybody’s been nice and “fishy” these past couple of weeks. Halloween came and went. Did anyone don their waders and go door to door trying to fill the creel with Reese’s cups? Definitely not a catch-and-release situation. We’ve also flipped the calendar to November, and boy, did that come fast.
Speaking of time flying, we have two deadlines rapidly approaching. The article submission deadline for the 2027 Print Magazine is November 20th, and anybody planning to participate in the 2026 Fall Kebari Swap needs their flies postmarked and in the mail no later than November 27th. We’d love to see you in these community-centric events!
Anyway, enough of that, let’s wade into those Riffles…
Beaverhead Days with the HYDRA v2
DRAGONtail Tenkara, recently posted a video of fishing a section of the Beaverhead River in Montana with the HYDRA v2. Big, famous water and a tenkara rod is always a combination I’m happy to watch. Grab a seat and enjoy the water…
Eastern Sierra Success
Over on r/Tenkara, u/Diligent_Team_2598 shared a post called “Dragontail Tenkara + Eastern Sierra = Success!” The setup was a Dragontail Mizuchi with a Brent’s Warbird soft hackle bead head on Lee Vining Creek, which produced a very chunky rainbow. The same combo did pretty well on the Upper Owens, too. The comments are worth a scroll: folks swapped Sierra go-to flies (drowned ants in size 16, copper kebari, size 16 stoneflies) and marveled at just how spotted that rainbow was…
Don’t Extend Yet!
Tenkara Rod Co posted a video with the title “CAUTION – Watch this video BEFORE you extend your Tenkara rod,” and I’m pretty sure that title was written specifically to get my attention. Whether you’re brand new or have been at this for years, a little pre-extension refresher never hurts. Go on, I’ll wait…
Three Minutes from Home
Our friend ShouJ (@Jimnynori) posted a short video from Chichibu Fly Field on X. By his own account, it’s a spot just three minutes from home that he rarely visits, and this time he had it all to himself except for his fishing buddy Satopin. He also notes his hook-set timing has gotten too quick after so much kokanee fishing, which is a good problem to have I guess…

What Does Fishing Mean to You?
On Instagram, @ukiten_taisho shared a quick lunchtime tenkara outing with the caption “What does Fishing mean to you?” Still a beginner, they were happy to finally catch something after a while, noting that catching is more fun than not catching. Honest and true, and one of the nicest little posts I’ve seen this week…
Zander on a Tenkara Rod?
The folks at Fliegenfischerschule-Hessen shared a clip titled “ZANDER on a Tenkara rod / Extreme fly fishing”. Zander (that’s pike-perch for those of us on this side of the pond) on a fixed-line rod sounds like a whole lot of fun and a little bit of chaos. I’m in…
Tenkara Night at the Fly Tyers
The New England Fly Tyers wrapped up a tenkara night with speaker Bill Doyle, and the club’s Facebook recap calls it a huge success. About 25 members turned out to listen to a talk about rods, line, tippet, flies, and some of Bill’s own adventures. Several members said they’d like to give it a try, which is exactly how this thing spreads…
Oikawa and Mountain Streams
hachimero just uploaded Tenkara Fly Fishing – Oikawa Are Just Like Trout in Mountain Streams, a title that promises Oikawa behaving like mountain-stream trout. It was only posted hours ago, so it’s about as fresh as the Riffles get…
