Tenkara Angler Welcomes Matt Sment

You may have noticed a few changes around here recently. Changes such as an updated website, a content submission form, more frequent posting, improved interaction on social media, even a new video posted to our YouTube channel (of which subscribing to would be awesome support)…

Well, the most notable behind-the-scenes change is that Matt Sment has joined the Tenkara Angler team, (we actually are a team now), to help bring you more frequent and interesting content.

For those of you not familiar with Matt…

Tenkara Angler Welcomes Matt Sment 3

He’s been instructing and guiding tenkara rod anglers since co-founding the Badger Tenkara company in 2014, where he designed several popular rod models. Matt has been a frequent presenter on the topic at many events, including the Appalachian Tenkara Jam and Tenkara USA Summit, and established the “Midwest Tenkara Fest” to create opportunities for the community to grow. In 2016-2017, he spearheaded an initiative to introduce the Boy Scouts of America to tenkara rod fishing. This resulted in its first official programmed use at the 2017 National Jamboree.

While Badger Tenkara has closed its doors, Matt continues to explore tenkara rod fishing by traveling extensively and fishing all across the country. He studys Japanese tenkara masters and experiments with unconventional methods with equal interest.

If you haven’t noticed yet, I’m really excited by Matt joining the team. His years of fishing for many different species with tenkara rods, paired with his understanding of fixed line product development, are unique traits shared by few in the United States. The passion Matt brings to enriching the tenkara community is an ideal fit for the mission of Tenkara Angler. Plus, his slightly differing perspectives from an editorial standpoint should be refreshing.

The times they are a-changin’… and in this case, change is very good.

Please join me in welcoming Matt Sment to Tenkara Angler.
