Fat Tire x Tenkara Rod Co. Collaboration

At a time when brand collaborations are popping up everywhere, Tenkara Rod Co. announced their latest joint project with New Belgium Brewing‘s Fat Tire beer – the Fat Tire tenkara rod.

According to the press release, this rod is ideal for medium-sized creeks and rivers making it an all-around fun tenkara rod. In addition to this being a limited edition rod, the first 50 people to purchase a Fat Tire rod get a $20 dollar bill thrown in their orders for some beer!

Drew Hollenback of TRC told Tenkara Angler, “We really wanted to send out a case of beer for every order but there were too many rules and regulations around that so we figured this would be easier.”

The rod specifications are as follows:

  • 12 foot fully extended
  • 6:4 flex profile
  • 3 ounces in weight
  • Available as a rod only – Fat Tire rod, rod tube, and rod sock
  • Or a full kit – rod, rod tube, and rod sock. 13 ft. furled tenkara line, 3 tenkara flies, wood line holder, 5x tippet, lifetime warranty.

Hollenback added, “It’s a 12 foot rod but with a slightly softer action and lighter weight than our Sawtooth.”

  1. Mixed feels on this. Yes the branding is somewhat attractive but how does that measure up in regard to the rod? I would love to see some specs and real user reviews. Is it a good rod or is it lipstick on a pig?
It feels a little “nascar” to me. So not quite my style. Novelty beer rods? I guess it’s a creative match up?
I will have to wait on the reviews though and even then.. well… I think the novelty branding like this isn’t me.
