Tenkara Angler Welcomes Amanda Hoffner

With the promise of new beginnings in 2024, the change in calendar also serves as the perfect backdrop to announce the newest addition to the Tenkara Angler team, Amanda Hoffner!

Tenkara Angler Welcomes Amanda Hoffner

Most of you probably already know Amanda (or her persona, Lady Tenkara Bum) from social media, the pages of Tenkara Angler, or possibly even met her at a fixed line event in your area.

So, why Amanda and why now? As we looked back on the past few years of publication, we felt it important to introduce a different energy and voice to Tenkara Angler. Our current editorial staff of Anthony, Jason, Matt, Tom, and I have been around the tenkara scene for quite some time, are of a certain age, and share a lot of common experiences and opinions. It’s time to shake things up a bit.

As Matt put it during a recent team chat, “Having points of view from different regions and points of ‘tenkara career progression’ are important. They can only strengthen Tenkara Angler (and our community) as a whole. We can all learn from each other!” I couldn’t agree with him more.

Tenkara Angler Welcomes Amanda Hoffner - Fishing

We feel Amanda Hoffner is an incredible addition. She is passionate about tenkara, nature, and the human heart. She has traveled from coast to coast as a nurse and fixed line angler over the past few years in search of her favorite target species, native and wild brook trout. This has taken her fishing in every state on the Eastern seaboard of the United States (except for a select few in which she plans to do in the near future).

Amanda is also a wonderful ambassador who has attended fixed line gatherings presenting tenkara techniques, written blogs, been featured in tenkara centric podcasts, attended fishing trade shows, and fished alongside fellow tenkara enthusiasts from around the world. In short, she’s not only extremely dedicated to the sport but also willing to share her experiences to inspire others.

Tenkara Angler Welcomes Amanda Hoffner - Teaching

Tenkara Angler has been fortunate to have Amanda as a contributing author in the past. She loves to tie flies and reported on the 2022 Appalachian Tenkara Anglers kebari swap as well as created a tutorial for her Flashy Ass-y sakasa kebari. Amanda also was featured on the cover of the Winter 2021-202 issue of our print magazine.

As Amanda gets settled in, we’d love it if you would (re)read her catalog of prior posts. I’m certain you’ll enjoy them.

Please join us in welcoming Amanda to the Tenkara Angler team!
