Today is a big day for many. Some might even call this Sunday “Super”. Yes, after what seemed like forever, we’re happy to announce that Sunday Morning Riffles are back, and boy, we’ve got some good stuff for you this weekend. That’s what you’re all excited for, right? Well, as you’re about to read, there’s some cool things going on in tenkara, and unlike elsewhere, no Taylor Swift, we promise!
A Few Good Fish
Kris Franqui from Tenkara on the Trail took us fishing on a snow-banked freestone river in search of the resident trout. Using the 15′ ESZ Rivermaster Z2 he was able to bring a few really nice fish to hand (as the preview image reveals). Toward the end of the video he also has one get away that you’ll want to see! If you’ve been cooped up indoors recently, take a walk along the river with Kris this morning…
Hill Country Tenkara Rods Now in Stock!
After being teased for a few months, the new rods from Hill Country Tenkara are finally in stock! It’s always great to see folks try to further specialize the market, and with these rods hailing from Texas, you’d have to think they’re set up to handle both warmwater species as well as trout. If you weren’t feeling the pre-order, now’s the time to grab a Killix 360 and Cakawtic 275 rod…

Ten Years of Tenkara Waters
Paul Gaskell of Discover Tenkara posted a short video this week celebrating the 10 year anniversary of starting the first “tenkara-only” syndicate waters in England (and possibly the world). It’s nice to see Paul with a tenkara rod in hand again and also amazing to see the that tenkara is not only surviving, but thriving across the pond…
Introducing the Rocky MTN Tenkara Chico
In addition to Hill Country, Rocky MTN Tenkara recently released their latest rod model, the Chico. Inspired by New Mexico’s small stream and high-elevation brown trout fishing, this 7/8/9 foot 6:4 zoom rod’s cosmetics pay tribute to the land of enchantment’s rich history (and unique license plates). Under new ownership, there’s been a lot of new energy around Rocky MTN Tenkara in recent months…

Let’s Talk About Goals
Angler Mike Garrison was recently interviewed by the Fisherman Crossing YouTube channel about the importance of having fishing goals, and specifically his personal goals as a fly fisher. Mike is focusing on tenkara this year so his answers were very interesting and entertaining, and he does a great job speaking about tenkara in general for those that may not be familiar…
Which Lines are Right for You?
The Heritage Tenkara Project put together one of the most concise and easy to read summary posts about the different styles of tenkara lines that I’ve read in a long while. It includes each type of line’s features and benefits, as well as the pros and cons. If picking the perfect line for your style of fixed line fishing seems overwhelming, this post is absolutely a must read…

Bead-Free Weighted Kebari
The latest video from the YouTube channel hachimero shows off a unique style of weighted kebari which does not feature beads or the use of split shot. Instead, he applies weight directly on the body of the fly. Looks like it’s perhaps soldered on there. Whatever it is, it certainly gets the fly down to where the sluggish winter trout were hiding…
Re-Wind Any Thread to Fit Fly Tying Bobbins
Look out, Jason Klass broke out the power tools this week at Tenkara Talk! He tries to solve a common problem a fly tyer might find when they want to incorporate a non-fly tying thread into their patterns. The spools often don’t fit their bobbin. This solution (with the addition of some beautiful wooden fly tying thread spools) solves the problem quickly…
