Fly Fishing Insider Podcast
It was really cool to see Tenkara Talk‘s Jason Klass appear on a mainstream fly fishing podcast, Fly Fishing Insider. Jason talked with host Christian Bacasa about some of the details, myths, and misconceptions about tenkara. It’s a great listen (or watch, if you so choose)…
Tenkara visits Flavortown
Okay… this was one I had to double check to make sure it wasn’t made up. But amazingly, it wasn’t! Tenkara was recently sort of featured on the Food Network as part of Guy Fieri‘s “Guy’s All-American Road Trip“. In the episode, Guy and his caravan of road trippers visit Wyoming & South Dakota and one of the many activities they participate in is fishing with tenkara rods in Rapid City, SD. Evidently his friend, and local chef Justin Warner is really into fixed line fly fishing. Amazing…

Hopper Dropper With Maruki Sharpshooter
Skiddy and his buddy Brendan have been itching for runoff to end so they could get out on the water. They did find a creek that was fishable and put the Wasatch Maruki Sharpshooter through the paces with a hopper/dropper rig. (Am I the only one who hears Hank Patterson in my head when I read “hopper dropper”?) Anyway, this is a fun video with lots of catching. Give it a look…
What Is Tenkara, and Where Does It Shine?
Martin Montejano over at Heritage Tenkara Project has been writing some really nice posts lately. The most recent, “What Is Tenkara, and Where Does It Shine?” is a great look at tenkara’s roots and the types of waters it’s best utilized. I really enjoyed that he’s not looking to be exclusionary, simply laying things out in an easy to consume format…

Pedal Drive Canoe + Tenkara
Talk about niche on top of niche. This video from Brian Schulz of Cape Falcon Kayak is honestly, kinda wild. First off, he’s in a skin-on-frame pedal drive canoe. While I’m aware of pedal drive kayaks, had no idea canoes were getting outfitted in the similar fashion. On top of that, he’s fishing what looks like the NIRVANA 400 tenkara rod and catches a big a** tiger trout. After watching this video, I think I’m headed down a skin-on-frame canoe rabbit hole…
White Mountains Tenkara Camp Out
I just got back from the White Mountains Tenkara Camp Out up in New Hampshire. It was an awesome time and I’m working on compiling feedback from attendees to put together a proper recap post for Tenkara Angler. If you want to get a feel for what the area and fishing is like, check out the photos in the Facebook Group, or read “Live Free or Die,” a blog post I wrote at Troutrageous! about my personal experience that weekend…

Fresh Flicky Flies
Chris Kayler put out his latest installment of Flicky Flies this past week. In this episode he chronicles the final day of an incredible hammock backpacking trip into a beautiful canyon to fish for numerous and large wild brown and rainbow trout.
Tenkara Angler Weekly Article Roundup
Three articles from Tenkara Angler this week…. first up, Dennis Vander Houwen checked in with a new installment of Tenkara Lifestyles featuring river dogs and their tenkara angling owners. I really loved this article. On Wednesday, we re-published an article from Steven McCaslin from our 2024 print issue about his entry into tenkara down in Texas. Finally, on Friday, Tom Davis wrote a rod review on a very interesting fixed line rod out of Australia, the Mirna Mora Marbi 11′. Give ’em a look…
