Check out this pair of companion videos from Tenkara USA published back in 2009. They’ll not only teach you a little bit about the history of tenkara as a method of fly fishing, but also the origin of tenkara in the United States. The event highlighted at the Catskill Fly Fishing Center and Museum was not only one of the more publicized celebrations of tenkara, but also the first time many notables from today’s tenkara scene gathered in one place.
I recall when I was first learning about tenkara, eagerly consuming any and all information I could find online, I watched these early videos about a thousand times. We’re really lucky to have so much of this history documented.
