As I was interviewing folks for the Tenkara Angler Origins Video Series I also asked the question “What is Tenkara?”. Interestingly it became clear that this question causes introspection and the answers can become very personal. The term “tenkara” has become a sort of metonymn and when we say “tenkara” we are quite often really speaking of some aspect of it and the aspect to which we are referring can be different from person to person.
Well, enough of that let’s just get to the video.
Thanks to the interview victims Hugh Crissman, Jeff Lomino (Riverworks Rod Co.), Jim Tignor (on Instagram @Jim_tignor_art) , Eric Shiflett (on YouTube @edrewshif) and Rob Worthing (Tenkara Guides).

One more thought….. Your site like most retail stores and shops inventory and sell landing nets BUT for some reason you list them in the Accessory category. I wondered why a necessity as important as a landing net wouldn’t have its own NET category. Could it be because there is so little innovation or variety?
Is it just an assumption that all landing nets have to offer is the good old traditional hoop on a handle design?
It’s been that way for centuries so why change now?
Sure it can be carbon fiber, wood, composites or aluminum and it can have a nylon knotted, mesh, or rubber but it’s still just a hoop on a handle. Nothing but classic design with a range of quality, sizes and price points but still just a hoop on a handle.
Doesn’t it just make sense to design landing nets to match an angler’s style of fishing?
Hike, Wade, Float, Boat, Kayak, Canoe, Backpack….. There is not a one size or type that fits all so why not more focus on this critical tool for adventurous anglers?
As a unique brand with a variety of nets I like to say NETrekk has a net for every fish, every angler, every style and every budget. I encourage you to check out the NETrekk Wizard at NETrekk.com to see what a net can be as a multitool for your style.
