So, Who Wants to be in the Next Issue?
It’s been a long time since we did an issue of Tenkara Angler magazine. April 2020 was the last time we released a copy of Tenkara Angler. Figured if the community has interest, (I get emails about it from time to time), now might be a good time to dust off that magazine building software and put together a new issue… With your help of course!

For those not familiar, Tenkara Angler started as a “crowdsourced” quarterly online and print magazine and ran from Fall 2015 to Spring 2020. Basically, it was a platform to tell your tenkara stories, trip reports, and gear reviews… display photos and artwork… share some fly tying recipes… and perhaps toss in an interview, “how to”, or D.I.Y. for good measure. As long as the topic was tenkara, fixed line fly fishing, or conservation in nature, it was fair game.
Well, putting those issues together took a lot of time, and Tenkara Angler was eventually pivoted to the blog format that exists today… bringing Matt & Jason along as co-editors. An unfortunate byproduct of that is that some of the community interaction has dropped off. While we enjoy creating content, Tenkara Angler first and foremost still wants to document your experiences with tenkara & other fixed line rods.
In an effort to create some excitement, we’re going to do another “proper” magazine and reach back out to you, the tenkara community once again. I’m sure there are some awesome untold stories that took place over the past year and a half. New rods bought, new flies tied, new waters fished, new fish caught. Let’s pull them together into a kick-ass issue of Tenkara Angler! One that you can actually physically page through (if you so choose).
Now we likely will not revive the quarterly drops, but perhaps an annual Tenkara Angler might be in the cards. I guess we’ll see how the community’s reaction to this “call to action” plays out.

So, if you’re interested, check out our Submission Guidelines page for more general details. You can submit words, photos, art, whatever using the form on that page. Or if easier, send in your submissions directly to mike@tenkaraangler.com. Don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or would like to chat through a concept. We’d certainly love to hear from you and will make this super easy.
Note: The submission deadline for the 2021 issue of Tenkara Angler will be November 19th, 2021.
(Sounds like a lot of time, but if you tend to procrastinate like me, it’ll be here before you know it!)
Oh, and brands… if you’re out there reading this, don’t be shy! Let’s use this issue as a way to promote your latest and greatest right ahead of the holidays. If you’d like more info on that, contact us at the email listed above.
We look forward to telling your stories… and would love if you’d let your friends know too!

Any chances to extend submission date? We were planning a trip for the end of November and would like to share the experience of Tenkara fishing a long forgotten stream in Costa Rica.
